The first week of classes is complete!

7… Boom

The first week is always the best. It is stressful, crazy, funny, long and fast. Everybody seems to be lost. Traffic is horrific. I had flashbacks of the movie Office Space driving to the office the other day. So many people were passing me and all of them were on foot.

I have not taught on campus in 5 years and EVERYTHING has changed. All the rooms have computers, projectors, elmo’s, microphones and white boards. I’m used to talking loud and chalk dust. I mean, come on man, I teach physics. If I don’t have a hand print on my ass from wiping my chalk dust covered hands on it when I leave the class, what are the students going to laugh at? Oh, and now we have these things called clickers. The students use them kind of like the audience in Drew Carey’s new show The Powers of 10. You ask a question and they all enter their answer. You get instant pie charts. You would think they had something like 4 buttons for a,b,c or d. Noooooo. They are more complicated than my time warner cable remote control. I’m not sure if I want to use them because some of the kids may hack into them and change the channel from Newton’s Law’s of Motion to late night Cinemax.

Oh well, the first week is always the craziest. Now I can get into a routine. Teach two days a week. Help other profs the rest of the time and blow stuff up with capacitors.

I love my job.
